The Best of the Best

A distributor telling you they sell the best beer in the world is a lot like a parent telling you they have the world’s smartest kid: it very well might be true, but the obvious bias makes you take such a bold statement with a whole mountain of salt. Well, you can put your salt shakers away because we’ve brought proof this time around! recently named the Top 100 brewers around the globe based on consumer reviews in 2014 and we’re proud to say that Rampant carries six: Avery, Rogue, Samuel Smith, Smuttynose, Thirsty Dog, and Uinta. says it had over 19,000 brewers listed on its site last year meaning the Top 100 represents the top 0.5% of brewers worldwide. The rankings were based on “reviews taken last year and weighted by performance within and outside of style, balanced by indicators of depth.”

Meet The Best

We only sell Avery in Kentucky but trust us when we say it’ll be well worth a trip across the Ohio River for a taste. Founded in 1993, Avery is committed to producing eccentric ales and lagers that defy styles or categories. They take great pleasure in brewing the beers they like to drink with utter disregard for what the market demands. While that’s a business plan that would likely earn them an “F” in most business schools, their results (and their beers) speak for themselves.

Part of the Brewpub wave of craft brewers in the late ‘80s, Rogue has steadily grown to become one of the titans of the craft world with its beers available in all 50 states and 32 countries. Don’t let their size fool you, though. They’re still the scrappy, risk takers they were when they were brewing beer in a basement in Oregon, committed to brewing the finest varietal ales in the world with an uncompromising devotion to quality and the art of brewing.

  Samuel Smith

In a world where breweries founded in the 1980s are considered “older,” Samuel Smith is borderline ancient. Founded in 1758, Samuel Smith is one of England’s oldest breweries and is therefore cleverly known as “The Old Brewery” in its native Tadcaster. Its beers are fermented in solid slabs of slate known as “stone Yorkshire squares” using the same strain of yeast since the 19thcentury and stored in oak casks that are built and mended on site.  The result is a classic, full-bodied English beer that is unrivaled.

When you think of the early stages of the craft beer movement, you immediately think of the West Coast but there were a lot of pioneers on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean as well. One such pioneer was New Hampshire’s Smuttynose Brewery. Founded in 1994, Smuttynose beers can now be found in more than two dozen states as well as overseas in Europe and Asia, but they’re still fundamentally a small brewer whose beers are inspired by the history, character, and flavor of New England.

Each of beer is meticulously hand crafted in small batches using the finest ingredients, creating a diverse spectrum of beers with unique flavor profiles. A trait that’s hard to find in today’s mass-market, “one size fits all” society.

Salt Lake City might not be the first city that comes to mind when you think of great craft beer but after you try Uinta, that might change. Founded in 1993 in a renovated mechanic’s garage, Uinta  is committed to brewing world-class beer using the best practices and ingredients. Their very presence on this list proves that they’ve fulfilled that commitment, but they’re more than one of the world’s best beer producers. Uinta is also one of the industry’s leaders when it comes to sustainability and recycling.
