A Summer Solstice on the Summer Solstice

As the astrology fans among you no doubt know, June 21 is the summer solstice. Being the most amount of sunlight we’ll see all year, it seems only reasonable to make use of this extra daylight by sitting outside and enjoying a fine beer. And, boy, do we have the absolute perfect beer for such an occasion.

On the summer solstice, you can impress all of your friends with your cleverness by cracking open an Anderson Valley Summer Solstice. This slightly sweet, malty session beer with a creamy mouth feel and clean finish is perfect for a hot, summer day. With hints of caramel in the nose and a touch of spice, it’s affectionately been dubbed a “cream soda for adults.”

Now that you have the drink of choice to maximize your summer solstice experience, what about the food? To really complement this smooth session beer, we recommend some barbeque chicken with a side of sweet potato fries topped off with S’mores for dessert. While that meal is going to be the most appropriate on June 21, we think you’ll agree that that’s a pretty awesome night any day of the year.

If for whatever reason you’re not able to take advantage of this once a year opportunity to match your beer with the physical position of the Earth, fret not. Summer Solstice is available through August in bottles, on tap, and, as we noted in our summer canned beer post, in cans. You can enjoy it any time and just pretend that it’s the longest day of the year. We won’t hold it against you.
